Next Tuesday, October 24th, we invite you to participate in the public forum “Natural Protected Areas, Indigenous Territories and Hydrocarbons in Peru”, which will be held in the city of Cusco, organized by Law, Environment and Natural Resources – DAR, the Zoological Society of Frankfurt – SZF, Centro Bartolomé de las Casas – CBC and the Foundation for Conservation and Sustainable Development – FCDS.
This event seeks to generate a dialogue on the importance and value of protected natural areas and indigenous territories as spaces for biodiversity conservation, source of food, medicinal and tourism sustainability, which make up the valuable natural and cultural heritage of Peru.
In this context, it also seeks to discuss the risks of the development of hydrocarbon activities near the PNAs and their buffer zones, as well as in indigenous territories, especially those indigenous reserves for peoples in voluntary isolation and initial contact.
Likewise, with this event we hope to contribute to the national dialogue on the importance and need of sustainable energy planning, which ensures environmental and social standards in the development of hydrocarbon projects, prioritizing the needs of the local population towards a sustainable energy matrix.
The forum will be attended by Cusco authorities and the National Service of Natural Protected Areas – SERNANP; representatives of indigenous organizations such as the Interethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Jungle – AIDESEP and the Native Federation of the Madre de Dios River and Tributaries – FENAMAD and international organizations such as the International Union for Conservation of Nature – IUCN, among other organizations.
The event will take place at “La Casa Fray Batolomé”, “Chani” room, Av Tullumayo 465, Cusco, starting at 6:00pm. We look forward to seeing you!
