Friday, June 30, 2023. On June 28, a meeting was held between DAR and the Regional Directorate of Energy and Mines (DREM) of the Regional Government of Ucayali to socialize the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and possible synergies for the creation of a regional EITI commission in Ucayali.
In this regard, Segundo Nieto, Director of the DREM, expressed his interest in promoting the EITI in the Ucayali region, in addition to requesting more information through training for his team and asking for DAR’s support in coordinating this initiative and the creation of the regional commission before the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM). To this end, Natali Pinedo, DAR’s representative, proposed to support the necessary coordination with the Ministry of Environment (MINAM) and to develop capacity building workshops on the EITI for members of the Regional Environmental Authority of Ucayali and DREM staff.
Likewise, the DREM was also asked for updated information on new oil lots under contract, existing gas pipelines in the Ucayali region, and those for which the region receives benefits even though they are located in another region.
The director of the DREM promised to deliver this information in July; he also informed that his Directorate will promote regional forums regarding the use of the canon and surcharge in the Ucayali region.
The coordination is part of the project “Strengthening transparency and good practices in the extractive sector”, promoted by CEDEPAS Norte, Grupo Propuesta Ciudadana and DAR, with the support of USAID.
